Drum Making Workshop

Robert Melchioris, LMT MLST.                               Workshop Host Donald Bingham Schmitt

Come celebrate the cleansing, rebirth of SPRING !

“I am very excited to be hosting again  this year a drum making class. Drumming is an integral part of a spiritual life. I made a drum many years ago and it has become the voice with which I speak energetically to the earth or shall I say with the earth. Spring is a time of rebirth, an opportunity for all of us to speak the truth with our drums. For sometime now the drums have been quiet, it is time for the drums to once again speak of peace and harmony. Make a difference in the world you inhabit.”

- Donald Bingham Schmitt

During this workshop, honor will be given to all who provide the raw materials for a drum. The “Sacred Four Legged” that provide the hide and the “StandingTall Ones” that offer wood for a hoop are recognized and brought forward in “Sacred Circle” as a part of the overall education process. You will participate in ancient traditional ceremonies during this event.

An altar will be established in the center of the working circle and each aspect of the drum’s birth will be recognized. The method taught uses the Medicine Wheel lacing of the Sioux nation to recognize the “Four Directions”, along with the Raven’s feet to celebrate the many songs that your drum will sing.  Bringing a new voice to the world is a powerful thing. This is the perfect opportunity to enhance and explore your spirituality through Native American traditions.

All supplies will be provided for making your very own handcrafted drum. This is a full day workshop, approximately eight hours in length.

The workshop fee will be: $225.00
The workshop will take place in Cleveland Heights, Ohio

For registration information, please contact: Donald Schmitt at 216-225-3473

To maintain the intimacy of this special gathering, space is limited. To allow time to order supplies, registration and payment must be paid in advance.

Please respond if you are interested in participating. I want to determine a date in May that will work for all.  This can be a life altering experience, my property was once inhabited by Native Americans. The energy is palpable.     Please join me,  Don

Laurel Hecht with her Painting, "Sari's Tree".

First, the art opening. 78th Street Studios are an amazing venue! Laurel Hecht's painting is so charming.  "Sari's Tree" was selected for Cleveland Creates, a juried show featuring local artists.  Of course, the fabulous jacket from Joss Boutique that I suggested for her looks amazing!  Laurel is not afraid to express herself.  Bravo!  Note: Standing next to her, a man with a HEART-on (the painting, not me)! Lol!

Let me Tell Ya 'Bout the Birds and the Bees... The Rabbits and the Cats...

I was just thinking that maybe, just maybe, if we all just learned how to lick each other instead of our wounds, there would be no war.  For sure, there wouldn't be much time for it!

NAMASTE!
Picture
This is a tray on my desk, featuring pieces that were given to me by friends, for example the granite Namaste heart from my dear friend Andria, the iron cap from my nephew Scott, the carved flowers from Cambria, the iron nut from Shane, the granite rock Tommy found and gave me. All examples that I am loved. I am oh so grateful for the cat to my rabbit..

Much Ado About...

So, there is a lot being said about Valentine's Day concerning love and all the things that it supposedly symbolizes, but if you do the research you'll find out that there was a lot of violence associated with St. Valentine.  I'm just saying...  Romantic Notion: Put your intention on a sheet of paper, fold it up, and put it in a special little box.  For Example, see below:
Picture
"Please Universe,

Bring me someone to LOVE,

But not just Anyone -

I sure don't need anymore crap.

Oh, Well!!

NEVERMIND."

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!

Le Petit Triangle's European aesthetic is reminiscent of a traditional French cafe.  The menu features French staples such as boeuf bourguignon, salade nicoise, croque monsieur, and a variety of sweet and savory crepes.  Considering the food, there were mixed reviews. The pork shoulder was too salty,  the lemon curd crepe was delightful, the croque norviegen well received, the steak roquefort not eaten, the pan bagna enjoyed, the cassoulet bland, the chutney, not so much. There were nine of us dining, so GO FIGURE!! The waitstaff is friendly, attentive, engaging, and fashionable to boot! The host was very accommodating, making sure our table was waiting when we arrived. We were seated by a beautiful bay window overlooking Fulton Avenue,The awnings under lit with charming festoons of string lights.
Our server answered our questions competently, and returned frequently during the meal to check on us.  The decor has changed since the original crepery Le Oui, Oui Cafe. There is now an adjoining dining room, and the comfortable ambience remains.  Note to self : Escargot is on the menu, Next time !!  Le Petit Triangle is located at the corner of Bridge and Fulton in Ohio City.

"Sari's Tree", a painting by artist Laurel Hecht, will be featured in Cleveland Creates, a group show at the ArtNeo Gallery on the 2nd floor of the 78th Street Studios.  The painting will be on display from Feb. 20th - April 17th.  The show includes creations from a coterie of talented artists from Northeast Ohio.  At the opening on February 20th (5-9pm), Laurel will be fabulous in a beautiful royal blue pleated duster by Berek from Joss Boutique at Eton.  It was so much fun helping Laurel
select the perfect piece for this event.

Fashion elevated to entertainment...

"HELLO": A fashion show and art event held at the Elevate Gallery in Slavic Village, Cleveland, Ohio.  A truly fun, energetic and enthusiastic evening of fashion and art.  Local designers and professional models from Taxi Talent Management commandeered the runway, which created a very interesting opportunity to see fashion live in Cleveland.
Okay, what can I say?  Dick Russell from The Gallery in Tremont presented amazing ensembles - sophisticated current fashion as well as beautiful classic pieces. Dick's emphasis on the runway : flannel, leather, denim, knit  and smart black clothing, fashionable as well as functional.  "I believe one should find style that is lasting instead of momentarily en vogue." - Dick Russell.

Designers featured on runway:
  • Shakeria Moreland
  • Elizabeth Floriano
  • Eclectic Closet Boutique
  • Le Tigre Vintage (Britten Brindier)
  • Merinos Fashion
  • Lion and Blue
Enjoy bits and pieces from the show!
